A similar phenomenon can be noted in business. Technological progress is huge and accelerates every year. Digital transformation entails negative effects as well as opens new possibilities. However, it must be acknowledged as a fact and the company should be adjusted to the current reality. This is a large and unavoidable challenge for managers.
Above all, customer requirements have changed, and that must be answered in order to remain on the market. A good example of this situation is Uber that created the platform for ordering drivers and severely endangered some taxi corporations. E-commerce, online payment platforms, online visits scheduling and electronic banking are also developing in dizzy speed. The real revolution is also noted in the way of marketing and advertising. Huge changes have also occurred in the recruitment process – the selection of different channels and methods – as well as in the development and training of workers – e.g. webinars.
Digital transformation and robotization have also helped to partially eliminate the human factor in hazardous operations. On the other hand, there are professions that a few years ago did not exist.
The style of business management and the way managers think should change. First, the whole process of digital transformation in the company should be transparent and workers should be informed about each step taken, stages, effects and above all of duties and procedures. Understandable communication will prevent concerns, rumours and will minimize natural resistance to the changes.
The obvious effect of digital transformation is the use of the various systems of business ERP, CMS, CRM, or BI solutions. Their capabilities allow to dramatically streamline processes, increase productivity and efficiency and thereby reduce costs. At the same time, the above solutions allow you to receive any information in real time which speeds up the management and decision process. Remote workability is also very important for consultants and traders – who spend most of their working time in travels – as well as for professionally active women who have children. Business systems improve communication and document management processes as well as operation unit and workflow management. Today solutions allow the appropriate allocation of tasks. Automation (the use of bots or AI) enables focusing human resources on more complex and creative work.
So, what is the greatest challenge? Experts say that it is not the digital transformation process in the company itself but rather appropriate human factor management, clear responsibilities and good communication. Moreover, managerial staff can focus more attention on e.g. management talent thanks to using digital enhancements. It is necessary to change stereotypical thinking and traditional management models and focus on other skills of workers.
